About Ross Taylor

Hi, Folks!

Ross Taylor's my name. I handcraft the unique products seen on this site.

I was raised in East Millcreek, a small farming community on the eastside of the Salt Lake Valley. My boyhood days were spent behind a team of horses putting up hay, plowing, and cutting grain, and when the farm work was out of the way, we dug basements with a slip scraper. After high school, I went to a college in Colorado on an athletic scholarship (football). I then joined the Air Force during the Korean conflict. After my discharge, I purchased a small poultry processing plant in the Salt Lake area where I had worked after school and on Saturdays during the 40's. I was able to build up this business until we were slaughtering up to 80,000 chickens per week for the local market. During this time, Mr. Rae McFarland and I developed the Beehive Deboning System, a mechanical method of separating meat from bone. A thousand pounds of chicken necks will yield approximately 700 pounds of meat and 300 pounds of bone. We expanded the use of that equipment to include turkey, all red meat bones, fish, and many fruits and vegetables. I handled sales for that company and personally handled Eastern Europe where I spent over 20 years traveling from Russia on the north to Bulgaria on the south. I had many interesting experiences in the Communistic countries before the collapse of Communism. I also spent 8 years working with a government agency, which was an interesting part of my life. I traveled 65 countries in all and learned one thing: the good, old USA is the greatest country in the world. Yeah, I know! Our political system has a few holes in it, but it’s still the greatest.

After my partner and I sold Beehive Machinery, I tried to retire – that lasted about two weeks. I took a position in the Volcano patents with a Mr. Richard Boetcher and spent 3-1/2 years developing the Volcano Cookstove. I have been manufacturing this stove and its accessories for 6 years and am proud of its performance. During my travels around the world, I became a real flagwaver. I think this country is importing itself into the poor house. All of the components in my products are made in the USA, and I am proud that all of packaging reflects that. I sent 2,100 stoves to Honduras when Hurricane Mitch went through and killed approximately 9,000 people.

I received a lot of national publicity over this, but I was really happy to help those folks out of that dire situation.

My family and I operate the Blue Sage Wagon Rides and Barbecue Company near Park City, Utah somewhat as a hobby. The most relaxing thing I can do today is drive a good team of horses. I pull and show heavyweight Belgium horses competitively in the mountain states and occasionally in California. Another interesting hobby I have is a little company called “Ross Taylor’s Original Bull Products” where I make hiking staffs and canes from the reproductive organs of bulls.
